Signal name pane not big enough for long name

Logic 2 Feature request: Make the signal name pane sizable to an arbitrary fraction of the application window, and remove the max character display limit to allow display of very long signal names.

In the Logic 2 application window, I can’t size (drag) the signal name pane to be large enough to read the entirety of some very long signal names.

I know I could rename the signals, but this is too much work for my process. I have tried View → Decrease Font Size, but this simply scales the entire display (text gets smaller), and also rescales the signal name pane so I see the same number of characters in the signal name. The signal name pane size seems to be limited by a max character limit (apparently 29 characters, followed by an ellipsis, so is that 30 characters?).

@vince Thanks for the feedback! We could look into increasing the max size of the left panel.

  • What percentage of the window size would you like as the max size? Currently, it seems like we set a fixed pixel width rather than a % of the window width.
  • In conjunction with potentially making the above update, we could also look into increasing the max character length. Roughly what value would work for you?
  • In cases where the character length exceeds the panel width, could a hover tooltip that reveals the rest of the text help in your case?

  • Percentage of the window size: Why not have the ability to make the net name column an arbitrary fraction of the window X dimension?
  • Max character length: I would suggest to not have a max character length. Just display as many characters that will fit in the column. But if I had to pick a number, how about 50 characters? (I have some net names that are 45 characters long.)
  • Hover tooltip is a great idea! That would definitely help a lot.
