Linux: Switch from AppImage to Flatpak?

Hi Saleae and community,

First of all thanks for a great product, both hard and software from a new user.

I just did the my Logic2 setup on a Fedora Linux, and I ran into the same problems that seem to be discussed in other topics here. As a Linux veteran I was able to easily fix the missing parts and get it to run.

But: I’d love if Logic2 was distributed as a flatpak, ideally avalable through flathub.org. Please see this as a veeery friendly suggestion / wishlist item

There’s three distribution independent packaging systems in existence - apart from very distribution specific rpm/deb packages:

  • AppImage
  • Snap
  • Flatpak

From those three I guess it’s reasonable to say that Flatpak has become the de facto standard. It allows to solve those remaining dependency problems that trouble people with the current AppImage by providing the complete runtime environment for an application. On distributions that come with Flathub enabled by default, it allows to install software with one click. In contrast to Canonical’s Snap, Flatpak repositories could also be hosted independently of Flathub if that’s what the software vendor prefers. But there’s also other proprietary & commercial software available through Flathub, so I guess it’s perfectly possible to distribute Logic2 through Flathub.

So, while the AppImage works for me and I highly appreciate your commitment to providing your software for Linux , it would make my life a bit easier if Logic2 was distributed as a Flatpak at some point in the future.
